Advising Aquila Capital on acquisition of DHL distribution center in Leimen

The shareholders of MP Holding GmbH sold their mechanized distribution center in Leimen as part of a share deal to Hamburg-based Aquila Capital in mid-November. A team led by Dr. Michael Dröge, Partner at the Hamburg office of commercial law firm Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, legally advised Aquila on the transaction.

The property has a total rental space of about 5,650 square meters and has initially been leased out to Deutsche Post DHL for 15 years. The logistics property is located on a parcel of land of some 17,900 square meters at Stralsunder Ring and was put into service at the end of October. The package center has hall facilities of about 5,000 square meters, office and communal areas of about 650 square meters, and paved open space of about 8,700 square meters for vehicle traffic. The distribution center is part of the Mannheim branch and with 2,500 employees delivers mail and packages to some 580,000 households.

The purchase on behalf of Aquila Capital was made as part of a portfolio transaction of a total of three newly built logistics centers, rented out to DHL, for a large institutional investor. The investment company had been mandated to build up a non-cash asset portfolio. Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has been advising the Aquila group, established in 2001, on a continuous basis. Worldwide, the group manages assets of EUR 7.6 billion for an international investor base.
