Hamburg has a new landmark: The PEKING, one of the last remaining four-masted windjammers, is mooring in the port of Hamburg again after three years of restoration. This is the end point of a decade-long odyssey from its launch in Hamburg in 1911, through its use as a saltpetre ship on the Hamburg-Chile route in the 1920s, to the spectacular transatlantic voyage in a dock ship from New York to Hamburg in 2017. The PEKING is part of the future German Port Museum, which the German government is funding with 100 million euros. Legal advice on the complex project was provided by a team led by Hamburg-based Heuking partner Dr. Martin Schellenberg.
