Hamburg Theater Ship shines in new splendor after comprehensive refurbishment!

Following an extensive refurbishment, the Hamburg Theater Ship will return to its original berth in Nikolaifleet in March 2021. The 108-year-old ship has already been available for review at the traditional harbor in HafenCity since October 2020. The refurbishment was financed by Papagena Beteiligungs-Verwaltungs-GmbH's own funds, funds from the Hamburg 2020 Refurbishment Fund, subsidies from the Federal Office for Culture and Media, and a crowdfunding campaign.

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek designed the EU award procedure, drafted the specifications and the contract, and led the procedure to successful conclusion over several rounds of negotiations.

The Hamburg Theater Ship is Europe’s only seaworthy ship theater and has been used as a theater since 1975. Since then, only cosmetic repairs had been carried out. Performances allow for an audience of 120, with everyone within seven meters from the stage. The Hamburg Theater Ship regularly travels to Kiel Week, Bremerhaven, Helgoland, and ports in the vicinity of Hamburg.
