HEUKING advises HR Hotel Estate Sylt on the sale of the "Strandhotel Sylt" in Westerland
A team led by HEUKING partners Dr. Marc Scheunemann and Dr. Stefan Proske provided legal advice to HR Hotel Estate Sylt GmbH on the sale of the "Strandhotel Sylt" in Westerland on the island of Sylt. The buyer is André Grimmert, who is expanding his hotel portfolio under the Heimatquartier Hotels | Events brand to six properties with the addition of the Strandhotel Sylt. In addition to the real estate, the buyer also acquired the hotel's operating company, thereby securing ongoing operations, including the workforce.
The "Strandhotel Sylt" is an established 4-star vacation hotel with a serviced-living character located in immediate proximity to the main beach of Westerland. It features 53 hotel rooms and suites, an on-site underground parking garage with 38 spaces, a fitness and wellness area, as well as a lobby, bar, and breakfast/restaurant area.
The sale takes place against the backdrop of the insolvency of the Revo Hospitality Group (formerly HR Group), which filed for insolvency proceedings under debtor-in-possession management (Germany's Chapter 11-style self-administration regime) for approximately 140 affiliated companies in January 2026. HR Group had acquired the Strandhotel Sylt in May 2024 and integrated it into its resort portfolio. As part of the restructuring proceedings, the hotel property has now been sold to a new owner who will continue operations, preserving all jobs. The transaction reflects the broader recovery of the German hotel investment market, which reached a transaction volume of approximately €1.8 to €1.9 billion in 2025 — an increase of nearly 40 percent over the prior year. Sylt, one of Germany's most in-demand vacation destinations with approximately 4.8 million overnight stays in 2024, remains an attractive location for investors.
Dr. Marc Scheunemann commented: "The sale of the Strandhotel was demanding because, in addition to the real estate, the operating company and its entire workforce also had to be transferred. It was important to us that the transition proceed smoothly and reliably for everyone involved — the seller, the buyer, and the staff. We succeeded in achieving that."
