Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek Provides Counsel to Hanover Municipal Utilities on Acquisition of Shares in E.ON Mehrum Power Station

Stadtwerke Hannover AG will assume the 50% stake in Kraftwerk Mehrum GmbH from E.ON. The supervisory board of Stadtwerke Hannover approved the transaction last week.

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek (in particular, the team of Dr. Wolfgang Kühn, M&A) provided counsel to Stadtwerke Hannover on this transaction. The contracts on the sale had already been signed at the end of October. The transaction is to be completed by January 1, 2010. Following the takeover, Stadtwerke Hannover AG will hold 83.3% in the Mehrum coal power station and thus will be majority owner.

By selling its stake, E.ON is taking another step towards implementing the commitment made to the EU Commission on the sale of power station capacity. Overall, E.ON pledged to sell 5,000MW of power station capacity in Germany and its German transmission network.
