Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek supports booksellers on reorganizing the tolino alliance

With a team led by Dr. Philip Kempermann, LL.M., Partner at the Düsseldorf office, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek advised booksellers Hugendubel, Thalia, and Weltbild on reorganizing the tolino alliance. The reorganization was necessary to realize growth opportunities in the ebook market and further efficiency improvements. In this connection, Deutsche Telekom AG sold the technology platform for tolino to the new technology partner, Japanese-Canadian company Rakuten Kobo.
 
The founding booksellers of the tolino alliance, Hugendubel, Thalia, and Weltbild negotiated a cooperation agreement with the new technical service provider Rakuten Kobo to ensures the tolino platform’s independence on a long-term basis. At the same time, measures were defined to improve user-friendliness of various tolino products for customers.
 
Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek’s team advised comprehensively on IT contract, trademark, antitrust, and corporate law aspects and supported the bookstores in their negotiations with Rakuten Kobo.
