Lippe District - District Council Approves Road Project

On March 16, 2009, the District Council in Lippe approved the innovative road project that is unique in Germany. Through the project, the district was able to achieve savings, calculated conservatively, of more than 9 percent when compared to its own version.

The novel project has the character of a pilot project and will serve many municipalities as a model. Over the next nearly 25 years, Walter Bau will maintain the Lippe district roads on behalf of the district. The company guarantees proper road conditions for a lump-sum price. The conditions will be monitored every 5 years. Road grip, road surface smoothness, cracks, mends and other condition characteristics yield an objective value of road conditions. Patch-up jobs and road management based on cash status will then be things of the past.

"With the procedure and the bid results, the Lippe district was able to fulfill its function as a model?, Dr. Ute Jasper, Attorney and Partne¬r at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, welcomes the decision by the district council. "Many cities and districts will now be able to profit from the experiences of the Lippe district. In the long term, the model permits money to be saved and the quality of the road system to be assured."
