Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek Provides Counsel to AREVA Wind on Negotiating Supply and Service Contracts for 200 MW Borkum West II Wind Park

The new Borkum West II wind park is to be built in the German North Sea about 28 miles off the northern coast of the island of Borkum. Initially, AREVA Wind, Bremerhaven, will supply 40 wind energy plants at 5 megawatt each. The wind park will generate enough electricity to supply some 400,000 households.

Led by Trianel GmbH, about 40 public utility companies are participating in the development of the offshore wind park, which is scheduled to start up operations in 2012. The total investment of Trianel, the participating public utilities and future partners for the Borkum West wind park will be in excess of EUR 1 bn.

This is the largest project financing of an offshore wind park in the German North Sea and the first project solely financed by municipal investors.

Dr. Stefan Bretthauer und Dr. Kai Bandilla (both Hamburg) of Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek provided counsel to AREVA Wind on negotiating supply and long-term service contracts and in connection with project financing.
