City of Aachen implements the „Haus der Neugier" with HEUKING

At the end of April, the city of Aachen successfully closed the transaction regarding the acquisition of the former department store "Haus Horten". This marks the initial step for the implementation of the new utilization concept and the redesigning of the property. A HEUKING team led by the Düsseldorf based Partners Dr. Laurence Westen and Dr. Martin Imhof, worked closely together with the city of Aachen, to set the course for public procurement and corporate law and negotiated the contracts to be concluded.

The “Haus der Neugier” will become the future home of the adult education centre (Volkshochschule) and the city library and shall serve as meeting place. For this purpose, the city of Aachen acquired the vehicle owning the property – a subsidiary of Landmarken AG – by way of a share deal and is now its sole shareholder and owner of the building. With the acquisition, the city of Aachen also assumes a nearly finalized planning concept for the “Haus der Neugier”. Simultaneously, the company was renamed "Haus der Neugier GmbH".
