CTP group, advised by HEUKING, takes over insolvent Geesthacht Hospital including geriatrics clinic and senior center
A cross-office HEUKING team led by Hamburg-based Partner Dr. Johan Schneider legally advised CTP group, headed by shipowner and logistics entrepreneur Captain Thomas Pötzsch of Rellingen, on the acquisition of Geesthacht Hospital and its geriatric clinic, the affiliated medical care center, and the local senior center out of insolvency. The investor agreement to acquire the relevant shares in the insolvent companies by way of an insolvency plan had already been notarized on March 28, 2025. Last Friday, the insolvency plans were now approved by the creditors at the discussion and voting meetings held at Schwarzenbeck Local Court, with an overwhelming majority in favor for Geesthacht Hospital and unanimous approval for the remaining entities.
Court confirmation of the insolvency plan is expected once the plan conditions have been met in early June 2025. The insolvency proceedings will then be lifted, with takeover by CTP group scheduled to close on July 1, 2025. Some 700 jobs will be preserved, and the full range of healthcare services – from maternity and geriatric medicine to nursing care and outpatient treatment – will remain in place. In addition, CTP group plans to implement an ambitious digitalization strategy aimed at enhancing the standard of medical care.
“I’m truly excited about shaping the future of Geesthacht Hospital. Together with General Manager Tobias Vaasen, the dedicated staff, and my own team, I’m committed to developing Geesthacht into a benchmark for modern medicine and compassionate care,” said Captain Thomas Pötzsch.
The complex transaction was especially demanding, as the HEUKING team had less than two weeks’ time between being retained and notarizing the investor agreement. This followed the collapse of negotiations with a previous investor, which ended due to a lack of financing assurances, at which point CTP group stepped in and expressed interest in acquiring the facility.
