Experts urgently demand shutdown of Tihange 2 – Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek supports 130 communities

Last Saturday, the International Association of Independent Nuclear Experts (Inrag) reiterated its criticism of the controversial Belgian nuclear power plants Tihange 2 and Doel 3. At a symposium held in Aachen, many of the independent experts spoke out in favor of temporarily shutting down the two reactors until their safety has been guaranteed. According to the experts, the steel components of the Belgian reactors should never have been installed due to their weaknesses. They are violating international safety standards.

Dr. Ute Jasper, who is supporting 130 cities from three States in decommissioning Tihange, also calls for a shutdown of the breakdown reactor. Jasper and her team represent the City Region of Aachen and 130 municipalities from Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxemburg in all legal action taken against Tihange 2. Two lawsuits were filed against the Belgian State, the Federal Nuclear Control Agency (FANC), as well as the operator of the nuclear power plant, Engie Electrabel S.A.
An incident of the nuclear reactor would not only make the City of Aachen and the region uninhabitable, the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate would also be severely affected.
