Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek gains Dentons’ Berlin employment law team

Effective January 1, 2021, Dr. Utz Andelewski (47) will join Heuking’s Berlin office as an Equity Partner. He will be joined by his team comprised of Dr. Christopher Wiencke (33), Salaried Partner, Dr. Christoph Fröb (31, Senior Associate), and Stephan Nakszynski (29, Associate).

The entire team will further strengthen the employment law practice around the Berlin partners Astrid Reich and Joachim Littig.

The team’s work will focus on advice to and litigation on behalf of clients in the health care sector, in particular hospitals, inpatient and outpatient care facilities, and statutory health insurance companies, which it also represents in social security law and tort law. The team advises on all issues relating to individual and collective labor law as well as canon law and publishes regularly on the relevant topics. In addition, Deutsche Wohnen SE has been one of Dr. Andelewski’s long-standing clients.

Dr. Andelewski is considered one of the leading legal professionals in Protestant ecclesiastical employment law and Protestant canon law. He is a Certified Specialist Lawyer in Employment Law and co-editor and co-author of a standard commentary (MVG.EKD). He has been an Equity Partner at Dentons since 2009 after starting his legal career at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek in 2001.

Dr. Christopher Wiencke has practiced at Dentons since 2016. Previously, he worked as a research assistant in Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek’s employment law team in Berlin. Dr. Wiencke is a Certified Specialist Lawyer in Employment Law and additionally focuses on sports law and sports employment law. He advises clients particularly in the health care sector, but also employers in sports, including soccer clubs, on issues relating to employment law.

“We are extremely pleased to have gained Dr. Andelewski and his team for our firm. The experienced legal professional will expand our advisory range in Berlin and also complement our peers with his personality in particular”, said Dr. Karl-Josef Stöhr, Manager of Heuking’s Berlin office. “The field of Protestant ecclesiastical employment law that will be added by the new team excellently supplements the Catholic ecclesiastical employment law, in which we have been advising for many years. In the future, we will also be even better positioned in advising and representing private businesses and public law corporations,” added Joachim Littig, Partner for Employment Law at the Berlin office.

“We are delighted to come to Heuking with an entire team,” said Dr. Utz Andelewski. “We are convinced that by joining a highly renowned and nationally known business law firm, we will be able to leverage, jointly with the Heuking partners, further synergies that were not previously used, such as in medical law and public procurement law.”

The team will be accompanied by four trained paralegals/lawyers’ assistants. Following the addition, 11 Equity Partners will be practicing at the Berlin office, three of whom in employment law.
