Compliance in soccer: Need for action and tips for implementation

Recently, there have been an increasing number of cases where large sports associations made head-lines with bribery scandals associated with the awarding of major sporting events. Primarily, the events surrounding the award of the Soccer World Cup by the world soccer’s governing body FIFA are the subject of such discussions – but not only that: Criminal proceedings were already initiated due to corruption and tax evasion; arrests and interrogations were carried out with media presence. Currently, the German Soccer Association (DFB) has become the focus of the media, public prosecutors, and tax investigators after they learned of inconsistencies surrounding the award of the 2006 Soccer World Cup to Germany.
