First Women Lawyers’ Day at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek

On March 28 and 29, 2019, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek hosted the first Women Lawyers’ Day at the firm. Some 100 female lawyers attended the event in Düsseldorf to network across office locations.

The get-together on the evening before event, with an introduction by Dr. Elke Umbeck, offered the lawyers the opportunity for an initial exchange. The next day, after the welcoming address by Dr. Pär Johansson, Managing Partner for Human Resources, saw the interactive part of the get-together. With her presentation entitled “Heuking Spirit – a career path – ladies, dare to challenge yourselves,” Dr. Ute Jasper offered the women lawyers a new impetus and stimulated an intriguing discussion. Dr. Constanze von Krosigk’s lecture on the topic “Women power – pursue a career the natural way” also provided food for thought and outlined different perspectives.

In the later part of the morning, Dr. Elke Umbeck, Dr. Anne de Boer, and Heidelinde Köpsel, Legal Counsel at Roche Diagnostics GmbH, presented various internal and external networks and their possibilities and opportunities.

At the afternoon World Café, the women lawyers reviewed the morning session and worked on questions relating to “Women, career, and development.” A panel on “Career paths and family” consisting of female and male Heuking lawyers, including Partner Dr. Jörg Schewe, addressed the individual questions and started a discussion round with the event attendees.

In retrospect, the Women Lawyers’ Day was considered a success not only for all participating lawyers, but the law firm also benefits from the exchange and networking of the women.

“We are offering various ways to pursue a career at Heuking. No two career paths are alike. And it is this diversity and freedom that we want to offer to our dedicated colleagues. For this reason, the Women Lawyers’ Day is the right way to keep our firm prepared for a strong future together,” said Dr. Pär Johansson about the first Heuking Women Lawyers’ Day.
