Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek advises Munich Airport: Kempinski Hotel Airport goes to Hilton Group

As of January 1, 2015, the Hilton Worldwide Group will operate the current "Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich" at the airport. After a term of 20 years, the contract with the Kempinski hotel group will end on December 31 of this year. The supervisory board of Flughafen München GmbH chaired by the Bavarian State Minister of Finance, Land Development and Homeland, Dr. Markus Söder, followed the recommendation of management: After a bidding competition legally supported by Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek (Munich office) for the operation of the present Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich, the supervisory board passed a resolution in favor of Hilton Group as at January 1, 2015. The bidding competition was based on the management contract drafted by Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek.

The five-star hotel, opened in 1994, lies in a central location at Munich Airport, between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It features 343 rooms, 46 suites and 30 conference rooms, as well as Europe's largest cantilever glass wall.
During the transition of the operation to the new hotel operator Hilton, a takeover offer will be submitted to the approximately 250 hotel employees. Until 2017, hotel capacity is to be increased by a total of 160 rooms following a building extension. In addition, a renovation is scheduled. FMG decided on a new operator after a thorough selection process with the assistance of external advisor Jones Lang LaSalle & Hospitality Group.

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek drafted all contracts and legally advised the airport on the contract negotiations with applicants Starwood, Hilton and Kempinski until the conclusion of the contract. The management contract with Hilton was signed at ITB in Berlin on March 6, 2014.

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek had already been retained by Munich Airport for the legal and contract design and negotiations in connection with the establishment of Novotel Munich Airport, which was leased to the Accor Group by a hereditary lease with a special purpose company.
